Inspired by movement across the continent of Africa, this special class series is high energy and big kicks! Taught by resident teaching artist Jiamond Elizabeth, this class will explore polyrhythmic patterns through large sweeping motions and undulations. Some experience with African dance styles is recommended but not required. Please reach out if you have questions or concerns. Meet Jiamond Elizabeth: Jiamond is a performing artist, dance instructor, choreographer, and writer. She has trained in various dance styles including Horton technique, Vaganova and Balanchine methods of ballet, traditional West African dance styles, tap, jazz, liturgical, and more. She earned her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA and shortly after danced with BalletX of Philadelphia and performed with Alonzo King Lines Ballet. Jiamond is passionate about dance instruction and is currently the Guest Artist of the REACH program in collaboration with PNB and School of Spectrum Dance Theater. Jiamond can be found teaching tap and ballet weekly at the School of Spectrum Dance Theater and (VC)Bynum Arts and Education.
